Google Home: Listen to radio, podcasts and music

When filling out the BOXT form, a case number will be pre-populated for you. One of the coolest things about Google Home is that it can stream music even though you don’t have any paid music service. To do this, just say “OK Google” and then ask for a song, singer, or even a genre you feel like listening to!

Speakers

Podcasts can be navigated in a similar way to using a podcast app. During a podcast you can ask to skip forward in an episode, or start playing the next episode. Using voice commands you can ask Google Home to play the audio you’d like to hear. We’ve provided some examples below to help you get started. Each command needs to start with “OK Google” or “Hey Google”. Toggle the mic on or off switch found next to the power cord.

While users await an official fix for the seemingly unfixable problem, there’s a workaround shared by a user that you can try out for yourself too. On your mobile device you’ll need to ensure Bluetooth is enabled and then select the speaker to pair. If you’ve already heard the latest episode and ask for the next one you’ll hear a message that there are no more episodes. You’ll need to ask for the previous episode of a podcast. When you listen to the latest podcast it’s like being at the end of a playlist of podcast episodes. If you listen to radio on your smartphone, you probably use the TuneIn app to do so.

With Google Home, you can get your news, listen to your favorite radio station or podcast and listen to music videos. As there’s no buttons or display on the speaker, other than a microphone mute switch and four lights, the setup is completed with the Android or iOS app. The longest part of the setup is waiting for it to connect to WiFi and update the built-in software. One of the surprising features of Google Home is that you can use it to play the radio, music, or your favorite podcast.
